By helping to create a sustainable community, focusing on food, clothes & shelter in coordination with trade, transport, finance, and communication, we aim to cultivate a resilient and thriving environment.

Meet the Team
Ras Selassie
Executive Director
With over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector across Ethiopia, Ghana, England, and Bermuda, I bring a wealth of expertise to our organization. As a business graduate, certified Yoga & Jiu-Jitsu instructor, and social entrepreneur, I am passionate about addressing challenges in food security, promoting organic agriculture, and fostering sustainable communities, particularly in developing nations.
At Make Afrika a Better Place, our mission is to address the long-term impacts of climate change by empowering young people with essential life skills and opportunities for holistic growth. I am excited to lead a team of dedicated individuals with diverse experiences and strong skills, committed to making a positive impact both locally and globally. Together, we strive to build sustainable futures for generations to come.
Abena Plnaman Ocansey
Business Administrator
As a seasoned social entrepreneur with more than 25 years of expertise in food procurement, packaging, export, and administration, I bring a wealth of experience to my role as Business Administrator.
My commitment to environmental advocacy and sustainable agriculture, coupled with fluency in multiple languages and extensive business networks throughout Ghana, positions me as a valuable asset to the organization.
Joining the Make Afrika a Better Place team at this juncture in my life is both opportune and gratifying. I am deeply passionate about creating opportunities for young people who may otherwise be marginalized. Together, we can empower future generations and foster positive change within our communities.
Kuush H. Bariisoo
Financial Officer
With a BSc in Mathematics and a deep commitment to social impact and sustainable development, I bring a unique blend of numerical expertise and ethical values to my role as Financial Officer. My academic and professional journey has equipped me with a solid foundation in accounting, finance, and management.
For over two decades, I have played a pivotal role in managing a successful business specializing in medicinal herbs and herbal product development. Through collaborative partnerships, I am dedicated to fostering strong intercontinental connections that empower my fellow Africans economically.
In my capacity as Financial Officer, I oversee critical financial functions including record-keeping, budgeting, reporting, and product quality assurance. With expertise in financial analysis, bookkeeping, auditing, and a passion for herbal medicine and organic farming, I am eager to contribute to Make Afrika a Better Place's mission and vision.
Nana Kwame Gebre Selassie Hunt
Youth and Activities Coordinator
Collaborating closely with individuals and community groups, I assess the needs of children and youth, and develop tailored programs and strategies to address those needs.
As Youth and Activities Coordinator, I oversee the daily management and supervision of Child and Youth Workers, ensuring the effective implementation of our initiatives.
I am deeply committed to empowering young people and fostering their holistic development. Through collaboration and innovation, I strive to create impactful programs that positively impact the lives of youth in our community. Working with Make Afrika a Better Place allows me to fulfill this passion and contribute to building a brighter future for our next generation.
Paula Clarke
Training and Development Volunteer
With over two decades of experience in the non-profit sector, I bring a wealth of expertise to my role as Training and Development Officer. My qualifications in Teaching, Youth and Community Education, Counselling, Cognitive Behaviour, and Solution Focus Therapies equip me to support the growth and development of our team and community partners.
Having worked extensively in fundraising, partnership building, and project development in the UK, I am excited to contribute my skills to the mission of Make Afrika a Better Place. Additionally, my background in Yoga and Meditation practices will provide valuable tools for promoting long-term health and well-being among children, young people, and their families.
I am enthusiastic about the impactful projects Make Afrika a Better Place is set to deliver, and I am honored to be part of this journey towards creating a sustainable future for the communities we serve. Together, we will make a difference and inspire positive change.
Our Near Future Non-profit H.Q.
Below are construction plans for our multi-purpose building that will facilitate the organisation's mission. It will house educational programs, work experience, and residential space, providing the necessary resources for Make Afrika a Better Place to make a positive impact on our sustainable community that can be replicated in other regions.
Entering on the 1st or ground floor reveals an interactive environment featuring our classrooms, admin offices and boardroom/presentation space. Here, students will learn about agri-business management, sports management and youth entrepreneurship courses, sustainable life-skills, and potential careers in the evolving green economy.
On the 2nd floor, a harmonious blend of functionality and comfort unfolds. Nine accommodation rooms offer private retreats for instructors or guests, and dormitory options for up to 27 students, athletes, teachers, or coaches. A fully equipped kitchen, common living room, and (4) bathrooms complete the second-floor layout. This purposefully crafted infrastructure enhances our capacity to carry out a wide range of activities, like hosting international groups that support our mission to create positive and impactful change.
